CAROLS, CORELLI & CANDLELIGHT

Glorious carols, sublime anthems, softly hilarious poetry and Corelli's stunning Christmas Concerto performed by the soloists of the Perth Bach Society and Basilica Chorale. A universe of sacred magic and spectacular music in the magnificence of St Patrick's Basilica, which is already blessed with one of the greatest pipe organs in the country. When a unique event deserves so many superlatives, how can you afford to miss it?

MATTHAUSPASSIONLEIN

Bach's immeasurable St Matthew Passion - cut down and dramatised from the crossing. The most powerful choruses with perhaps the world's most heartrending arias, and the story of the crucifixion narrated in real time to a spellbound audience. Everything by Bach, all human, and divinity you can reach out and touch.

Baroque breakfast

A morning of elegant Baroque music with a delicious European-style breakfast. You'd be seated in the centre of St John's Church - the welcoming heritage church in the centre of Fremantle - and while you’re listening to the gentle harmonies of Bach, Vivaldi, Telemann and more, you’ll be served a European multi-course banquet with the menu matched to the music from the Perth Bach Society's Johannine Ensemble. Like all our performances by the Perth Bach Society, we try to keep tickets as affordable as possible so families can enjoy the European cultural experience together. Tickets for the Baroque Breakfast were just $40, or for the unemployed, or a full-time student, $30. Kids were fed in body and spirit, for merely $15.

Gut feeling

An evening of intimate musicianship, performed by great artists of our time, with all the magic of the tone and immediacy of timeless music on historically original instruments from a time long past.

JS Bach's magnificent Suite for solo violoncello no. 3 in C major, performed by the legendary West Australian luthier and virtuoso 'cellist, André Ozturk, and Bach's substantive and brooding Suite for solo violoncello no. 5 in C minor, performed by famed 'cellist and expert in historically informed performance, Dr Amanda Reynolds.

As a spectacularly rare treat, Händel's Sonata for Flute and Basso Continuo (HWV 363b) (anonymous transcription of the Oboe sonata in F major, originally composed c.1714) performed by young and blisteringly talented West Australian flautist Isabella Eagles, accompanied by Amanda Reynolds and Daniel Masmanian (harpsichord)

rise up

Two exciting concertos alongside Bach's evisceral cantata Widerstehe doch der Sünde - literally, 'Stand up to Sin', performed by the Vox Aquilæ's powerful alto soloist Priscina Dharmadasa, while one of Perth's most talented flautists Rebecca Vouyoucalos lead the ensemble as soloist in Vivaldi's effervescent concerto Il Tempesta di Mare and, alongside the exceptional young violinist Winston 't Hart and the ever-delightful cellist Jennifer Cowley, delighted in Telemann's delicious suite of dances and dramatic trios, understatedly packaged as a concerto grosso.

ABC

PBS presents two baroque masterpieces: Vivaldi's effervescent Gloria coupled with the Foundling Hospital Anthem, Handel's exceptional oratorio-in-miniature, culminating magnificently with a certain chorus, composed just seven years previously for another oratorio which premiered in Dublin and was still scarcely known to Londoners - the magnificent Hallelujah from his now-legendary Messiah.

COFFEE & cONCERTI

Opening with Bach's perfect fourth concerto grosso dedicated to the Marquis of Brandenburg, then delving into the concerto for Violin and Oboe ('reconstructed' from the later concerto for two harpsichords) and concluding with the evergreen Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht - better known since 1735 as the Coffee Cantata. And finishing off with a unique encore by Melchior Hoffman, for soprano, strings ... and bells.
